Throughout the Scriptures we find affirmations that speak to us of the steadfastness of God. He is immutable, omnipotent and merciful.
Unlike human beings, our lives are constantly changing. The changes can come with force like a tidal wave, or they can come gradually like a glacier. They can also come in a devastating way, deaths, illnesses, difficult situations, broken relationships or new opportunities, etc. Yet even in our changing lives, God’s steadfast presence remains constant.
We read in Lamentations 3:22-23: For the great love of the Lord we are not consumed, for his mercies never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your fidelity.
And in James 1:17: Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like the moving shadows.
Think: Have you experienced changes that have blessed your life in ways that exceeded your expectations? Have you experienced changes that have shaken your life in ways that have left you bewildered, with wounds and pain that only God can heal?
When we look back and remember how God has led us throughout our lives, through all our ups and downs, how He has written straight lines using our crooked lines, how He has led us in our battles and has been so much in the mountain as in the valley, we can realize that our God is immutable is the only way we can keep our balance and stand in a world that is tottering.
How change affects our lives will depend on our attitude. You can evaluate what you have learned through the changes in your life? And with those past experiences, what would you do differently? And not only could you overcome new changes in your personal life, but you could help others go through those processes.
Here is a thought from a great woman in the history of Christianity:
“Give yourself completely to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe far more in his love than in your own weakness.” Mother Teresa
In our current times we are experiencing significant changes, technology moves very fast, also communications, society is changing its moral and ethical values, people feel more and more alone and unloved, many are losing hope, uncertainty grows, military conflicts increase, and God is not a priority for most people.
How can you make a difference in the world around you?
– Approach someone this week to offer a word of comfort and hope.
– Take some time to find someone you appreciate and have not seen for a long time.
– Make a phone call, or write an email, or a simple text message to someone who needs a friend’s words this week.
– Consider at all times to transmit simple words to let others know that you have not forgotten about them.
In God’s Love,
