Why spend just one day a year to show those we love that love we feel for them?
Have you asked yourself the question, why are many looking at what to buy for the person they “love” for Valentine’s Day? In some cases, it is a different person every year, why? Simply because what they call it “love”. That is not true love, but rather a passing emotion.
What is love for you? Is it giving a gift? Is it buying flowers? Is it taking your partner to dinner? Is it remembering her or him for a few hours? Loving goes beyond gifts or a special day, to love is to understand, to love is to listen, to love is to accept ourselves as we are, to love is to endure, to love to support, to love is to respect, to love is to give oneself for the other, that and many more things that are not associated with material things, but emotional, sentimental and spiritual.
For example, for God, what is love? We see the answer in John 3:16, in a few words, love for God is to send His only son to die for us and give us eternal life. Love for God is to forget about our sins when we ask him to forgive us, it is to be faithful to us even when we are unfaithful, it is to renew his mercy towards us day after day, this and many more things, words can not reach to express it in its entirety.
God’s love for us is an AGAPE love, it is a perfect love, that even with all the mistakes we may have He loves us with eternal love, but yes, He does not love the sin that we are often committing or practicing. That is why God in His infinite love always gives us a margin of opportunity for repentance before judging us and it is up to each one of us to take advantage of that margin to repent and experience the totality of God’s love.
For the reason that God loves us every day, without adding “buts” to that love, is why I think we have to reconsider the ways in which we express love towards someone. Why do I say this? Simple, most people just wait for that day to have an “act of love”. I agree that we have to show the love we feel, but not necessarily on one specific day. I think that every day should be full of love for all those around us, that love that should run through our veins because God has flooded us with love, the love that He had (has) when He first loved us. For that reason I call on you that every day of our existence we practice showing love towards the people we love and especially our partners who are the ones who share their lives with us every day.
It’s nice when we understand that there doesn’t necessarily have to be a special day to show the love we feel towards someone but that every day, or every opportunity we have, we should show the people we love, that they occupy an important place in our lives. That is a gift from God to us. With this we would be doing two things: The first one is to love God, because he who claims to love God and does not love his neighbor has not known God, because God is love. Second, the bonds of love would be strengthening day by day, without the need for there to be a specific and unique day within a year that affection would have to be shown.
Beyond everything these days, it is a good time to thank God for His incomparable love and for His beautiful friendship which teaches us so many things day after day, at the same time also letting Him know that we are grateful for our friends and for the people whom He has allowed us to love.
God empowers you with His infinite love. Amen
