– Vickie Ripley, Director of Music and Worship and Lay Leader
We continue in the Easter to Pentecost season through May – the greater cycle of the Christian year. With its colors of white and gold, it helps us celebrate Christ’s death, resurrection, time spent on earth again before his Ascension, then Pentecost. This cycle is often referred to as the Great Fifty Days. This year, we celebrate the Ascension of the Lord on May 21, as we remember when Christ left earth to return to heaven, promising to send the Advocate to be with us until he returns. Read Luke 24: 44-53, which tells us about how He blessed the disciples and was taken up. Pentecost Sunday is May 28, and we celebrate the coming of that Advocate, the Holy Spirit, to establish the church as reported in Acts 2: 1-21. This is the birthday of the church! During this season, Gibson’s worship services with scripture, teachings, music, liturgy, and prayers will help us focus on and learn more about this wonderful and awesome time in history.
Please join us on Sunday mornings at 9:30 for Sunday School and at 10:30 for fellowship time, and at 11:00 for worship services. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month and offer intinction with bread and juice as well as individual prepackaged cups and wafers. We have also begun offering a children’s message each Sunday again.
As we establish Gibson as a Lighthouse Congregation, we will continue to be intentional about sharing the Good News of the Gospel. Our worship services, Sunday School, bible studies, fellowship lunches, and missional outreach all provide opportunities for learning and growing, as well as for showing the community what being a true follower of Christ really means. We want to be a congregation that people want to be part of!
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
